A movable structure that checks the movement of people and animals in and out of an area is known as a gate. Gates are mainly made of steel, iron, wood or polyvinyl chloride. Prisons, churches, schools, hospitals, game reserves, lunches, homes, buildings and industries have gates. Gates are important in the provision of security by controlling and keeping off unauthorized people from getting in a place. There are two types of gates; sliding gates and swing gates. Swing gates are gates that swing in the inner or outer side while sliding gates are gates that move sideways on a rail by use of rollers. Swing gates mainly come in twos. Below are the importance of swing gates.
Swing gates are more attractive. Swing gates swing out in a way that is similar to how a person opens his two arms to bid welcome to a visitant. Sliding gates are less charming to a visitant than a swing gate. Sliding gates appear as if they are supposed to be used in industries. The equipment used in the establishment of a sliding gate is visible making the gate less attractive. Sliding gates also require regular lubrication of rollers, hinges and pulleys. This oil on the rail makes the gate appear less clean.
Swinging gates are installed easily. Homes and industrial swinging gate only require hinges or flexible joints which attaches them to the outer posts. Swinging gates, therefore, have a low cost of installation and do not cause a lot of damage to property during installation. Sliding gates must be set up on a concrete foundation hence a lot of excavation work is involved. This leads to the destruction of property during the digging of the foundation. The rollers, metal rails, hinges and pulleys used in a sliding gate make the cost of installing a sliding gate higher.
Swing gates produce less noise. Swing gates have few hinges and pulleys to attach them to the side posts. Swing gates thus produce less noise when opening and closing is being done. Sliding gates possess many pulleys and hinges. The friction as a result of movement of this hinges and pulleys result in the production of more noise. The friction results in the depreciation of the sliding gate. It is easier to lubricate the moving parts of a swing gate compared to a sliding gate.
Swing gates can be established in hilly places. On hilly area, it is cheaper to open and close a swing gate than sliding a sliding gate on the rail. Sliding gates need more physical energy to control its movement along a hill while a swing gate is swung out more easily.
In conclusion, it is better to set up a swing gate in homes than a sliding gate.
